Similar experience I've had with DL is that they handle IRROPS way better than anyone else.
Things that all help:
- The app
- Having status
- Access to SkyClub agents
- Understanding unconventional flight options over other hubs / alternate airports
- Liberal corporate travel policy that its no problem to book hotel rooms for extra nights, rent a car, or buy other ticket if necessary
Frankly, during IRROPS I have never really heard the word "No", unless there are no seats available.
Having dealt with AA during IRROPs, not having status, and not having the tools above, has let me to either a) just drive; b) cancel and buy a ticket on DL even involving a connection
