It'll be the end of August, so the flight is wide open in all classes (and GBP200 cheaper than anything out of LHR!).

Certainly no harm in asking. That said, be aware that ground staff at CDG (for all airlines, not just UA) are not the most service-oriented of people - do not expect an especially pleasant reaction!
