From all accounts it wasn't his size as such, but simply the fact he needed a seat-belt extender.
As with many/most airlines, these are not allowed in the exit row on Qantas as they are a trip hazard in the event of an evacuation.
He didn't meet the requirements for the exit row. He was moved. End of story - at least until the press gets involved.
