Status does not matter and only some of the Chase MP cards get a bag waiver

Explorer Card -- for the primary cardholder and one companion on the same PNR, get 1 bag each
Club Card or Presidential Plus Card -- for the primary cardholder and one companion on the same PNR, get 2 bags each

Free checked bags for eligible United Chase Cardmembers

Paying the bag fees with an eligible card would have not waived the fees- too late.
