I agree with you about the contrast on borders.
I had a US agent at YUL ask me "What is it with you people and your wives keeping their names?" amongst other gems. I kept my cool but it was infuriating. Anyhow, great trip report thank you for sharing. That Austrian PE product looks solid.
The big tourist spots in MTL have probably been covered by others many times over. And, honestly, I've done it all before: climbed Mont Royal, wandered the RESO, dined at the 737, afterhours raves at Aria, bar hopping on Crescent and St-Laurent, gambling at the casino, seeing the Expo 67 and 76 Olympics sights, night skiing at Saint Sauveur, Tam-Tams on the weekend, dined at Schwartz's and Queue de Cheval, etc, etc.
For me, places like Chalet BBQ are what I'd missed most. While a lot has changed since I lived in MTL, I'm grateful that Chalet BBQ is exactly as I remember it.

Dear FT Readers: I have travelled to four continents and dozens of countries. I can say without hesitation that there is no other rotisserie chicken on the planet as good as what is served at Chalet BBQ. If I was offered a last meal before execution I would no doubt ask for a takeout order from Chalet BBQ. (Half chicken, fries, with the coleslaw and apple pie as well. But hold the ice cream as I have to watch my weight).
Agree with you on that, for sure. Across five continents and 60 countries, I've yet to find a better rotisserie chicken.
Montreal is a bit of a departure from the norm for me. My reports usually cover cities I'm visiting for the first time, where I have zero local knowledge. With this report, I wanted to show something that a typical tourist would never experience. For me, places like Chalet BBQ are a big part of the MTL experience. A friend from Ottawa introduced me to the Chalet nearly 20 years ago when we were both living in the city. Sure, Schwartz's makes a good
pastrami smoked meat sandwich, but I'll take the Chalet any day of the week.
