Load on EF is high — availability shows F1 W1 Y1 B1 and all others buckets zero.

Theoretical Seating which kicks in at T-72 and blocks seat(s) next to status holders. It's not an official published benefit, jUst a nice to have, and if the flight is overbooked then the 'blocks' disappear as the seats need filled up. i.e. Gold will be the last blocks to be removed then Silver and so forth.
Given the flight loads your quoting I suspect this flight is pretty much rammed full but people do miss their connections, don't show, change their ticket etc so best to choose a seat but don't print your boarding pass until as late as possible as this allows an easy seat change.
However, if no joy then it's always worth asking in the airport or at the gate.
