If it weren’t legal, they would not be allowed to do so.

Not only did they not display the terms and conditions before I confirmed and paid for my reservation, they emailed it to me after. Now they are saying that the Terms and Conditions are posted for anyone to review prior to booking which is a copout because no one goes researching a website beforehand.

Actually, many people planning travel do research multiple websites beforehand.

What should I do?

Next time, read the T&Cs for any airline, hotel or car rental agency before you complete your reservation, especially if you’re using a discount. Discounts on airline fares, hotel rooms and car rentals usually have additional restrictions.

As you say, “Lesson learned.” Additional restrictions on discounted prices are not just limited to Sixt.
