Strange to hear this. Did they actually charge you for losing room key? I'd raise the matter to Marriott in such case.
P. S. I was able to get a Suite room, though it took effort: I had to prove to the check-in staff that the room is actually available in the app, as they initially claimed it's not. I also got a free breakfast for 1 person (I stayed alone).
