I suspect that GGL is probably about the level of commercial importance that Gold used to be, although to make it more closely resemble the old Gold, GGL should probably be counted on BA flights only.
On the contrary. It used to be much easier to get Gold, as a "Euro cheat" - by having an address outside the UK. It has definitely not become easier to get, but reading FT you would think that almost everyone (and their dog) is a Gold (or even GGL) member ...
