It's well deserved. Many show they the only part of their job is counting change, scanning an item, and then handing the customer a receipt.
A cashier should have customer service skills (actually smile and greet someone properly), know what card networks the store takes, and know what contactless payments/Apple Pay are.
I find very few cashiers understand all of that... They make it seem like it takes years of studying to understand. They create friction for contactless at a lot of point of sale systems.
It's like asking a TSA agent if they you can carry a certain item through security and them saying, "I don't know."
