I assume you too chose dates which gave good value revenue or redemption fares, thereby it's the same for staff travel too.

For the noise, there are headphones out there which almost completely block out noise, and noise cancelling headphones too. With my Shure headphones I can't hardly hear anything at all, including public address announcements, I just feel the aircraft's vibrations. Personally I very much like the 787, both in terms of comfort, sleep quality and the crew levels, and it is an aircraft that allows BA to restart routes such as KUL, SCL, PIT, CHS, ISB which wouldn't otherwise be economic.
CWS if you don’t mind me asking which model Shure headphones are these? Thinking about investing in some new headphones.
