In multiple people's experience, it hasn't happened, so I don't think that it is automatic.

That doesn't seem warranted. If there's a plausible explanation, I'm sure that Hyatt wouldn't close your account over this. Especially if you're not escalating/pushing for the extra night credit if you don't get it.
Again, as others have said:
T&C say that this doesn't count. And
in general you wouldn't get the extra night credit. However, there have been SOME cases where it counts. If so, great. But don't count on it, and don't escalate if it doesn't happen.
