Yes, that was what I was warning about. What could happen if you continued to use the UK website, after being a resident of (and getting insurance in) the US, when renting in the UK. (How it works of other countries in the EU, while the UK is still part of the EU, or under any terms of a possible Brexit, that I'm not sure either.)

Continuing to use the UK site for booking outside UK/EU should not be a problem, though it's best to compare both rates and insurance inclusions between the UK site and the US site, since for each country the differences between the two sites might be different.
