Just to add to the post from cws, the bus stop at Central Bus Station is (I think) nominally 12 (nearly at the end on the left as you exit the bus station building, just cross the pedestrian crossing and bear left), but there are a lot of buses that use it and in reality they pull up in the general area and load - it’s pretty obvious, you see them coming in and dropping off first, but just something to be aware of.

Coming back in, the buses drop off close to the signed entrance. There is a sneaky short cut to the escalators leading down to the Underground and T2/3 tunnels which avoids walking through the bus station, but on this occasion it sounds better if your father just follows the signs!
