Since I didn't drive while there I can't comment on your driving itinerary. If you are at all interested in nice photo opportunities, be sure to get to the Nusamai Bridge over the Kushiro River in downtown Kushiro just before sunset. There will most likely be some competition for good spots but the photos ops are wonderful. Can't promise the kayaker will show up.
