They are talking about all planes and I think on most US carriers. Years ago first class seats were plush and very comfortable (and coach seats were also more comfortable in terms of cushions). Then they (all airlines) went pretty extreme in trying to reduce a/c weight to save on fuel costs as well as add more seats, and one way they did this was the introduce slimline seats. They take up less space but are substantially less comfortable.
