I've been trying to find detailed information about the HIX. It's very limited on their website, and upon reading a half dozen pages of Tripadvisor reviews, none of my questions are answered, and it's also clear from the many 1* reviews that lots of people are befuddled and/or run afoul of rules that aren't clearly spelled out. I'd be grateful if someone could address the questions pertaining to my specific situation below, and I also think that it would be immensely useful if someone who's done an Intl-Intl connection here could post a detailed writeup of the HIX procedure.

I'm planning an international overnight transfer on separate tickets (in: JAL, out: Air India). Questions:
1) How do I convince JAL to check me in without a visa?
2) Upon arrival in DEL, some Tripadvisor posts state that you can't get to the HIX without a (printed) boarding pass for your onward flight. One poor soul reports having been forced to sleep on the airport floor, so I assume there's no way to obtain the boarding pass there.
3) What happens with luggage? I'd like to have it at the hotel, and I definitely wouldn't want it to sit on the carousel (and then some lost bag office) until I retrieve it the next morning.

Are there simple solutions to these issues, or is the best advice to obtain a visa and stay a regular hotel near the airport? TIA!
