If you are worried about the fares selling out on the outbound flight, you can call up and ask to book outside of system range. The agent will book the desired outbound flight and the latest available return flight and add a note to your booking so that when the desired return flight becomes available, you will just pay any difference in fare and tax based on that day's rates.
