Sheraton Grand Conakry, Guinea [Master Thread] [closed]
I didn't see a thread for this hotel. If I missed it, I apologize.
This is still a fairly new hotel, somewhere near the center of sprawling Conakry. It's about fifteen minutes from the airport in mid-day traffic. Free shuttle. The eleven-floor-plus-below-ground-level buildings sits right on the beach. I spend most of my time on the African continent in non-Western hotels, so this was a very luxurious experience at about US $260 per night for my three-day stay. Green program participant hotel.
I'm a lifetime titanium guest. I was treated well, given a large room overlooking the ocean and beach. The room had a small balcony with chairs. Separate large tub and shower. Everything in the room was as-new. Reminders that I was in Africa (e.g. art and furnishings) were subtle.
There is a large, very well-equipped fitness center on the ground floor, open 24 hours. Attached to a spa facility that I didn't check out.
The tenth floor Club was fine, with pretty-usual offerings - bread, cheese, salads, Pepsi products, dried fruit and a hot dust or two - noodles, samosas - in the evening.
One odd things is that Lounge visitors are presented with a bill to sign after a snack/food. This is apparently some internal transfer pricing/cost accounting thing; nothings appeared on my bill. Well, nothing except breakfast. There was some confusion about this (mine?). At one point I was told breakfast was included in my room rate, then it showed up on the bill, so I retroactively made it my welcome amenity and all was well.
A new General Manager arrived last week. He introduced himself and treated me like the VIP that I never fancy myself to be. He also stepped in to clarify some Bonvoy program benefits, including late check out. I think through hotel is in good, experienced hands.
Staff was always pleasant and promptly responsive to anything sent through the app chat function. We had a few laughs over my French.
