When booking a cruise, it is time to consider new credit cards for some of the purchase. New Airline affiliated cards offer mega points, but require material spending in the first 3 months (time carefully, as they must be received, charged to, and paid in the 90 days). The airline cards charge a fee, but often the first year is free, then consider dumping it. There are similar available opportunities with hotel cards, getting points, in exchange for minimum purchases in a short period. Some of these cards have a fee, but those often give you an annual free night at the hotel, great value. It is also a good time to put some activity on an airline card or other to keep them active. Having a high credit card limit total, versus charged can help you fico score.
I'm retired with good fico, if your are planning some borrowing in the next year or two, this may not be a good choice...or at least limit it to one.
I often use 3 cards for my purchase, one of which may or may not be what I use for on ship purchases. Watch what card you use in a foreign port. You do not want to pay fees, some cards charge for exchange.
Thanks I ended up with putting cruise on Amex. It seems to me pricing is same no matter where you go.
I chose Amex because they gave me a $200 On Board Credit, Free soda package for my son and a few other things like Johnny Rockets, and stuff that were just minor.
I put airline tickets on another card.
thanks
