My wife flew back from EWR carrying hers, on its hanger, and they had no problem stowing it neatly in the wardrobe. However, that was a long haul aircraft with First and Club World (she was in economy, or maybe Traveller Plus) where there was plenty of wardrobe space for it. I wouldn't be so sure on a short haul aircraft.
