Long day but possible. The old road (nearest KL) is he most scenic. Stop at the BOH tea plantation, and/or the other one right on the highway. Tanah Rata for lunch and go back. No real reason to go beyond Tanah Rata.
The place has certainly changed since I first went there (a year or two after Jim Thompson went missing).
