My wife and I do this with our kids a lot and I think it goes without saying that you pair 1 child with 1 parent. I don't necessarily agree with the no visiting rule though. We do follow this unless one of us has to go to the bathroom. Then me or my wife will leave the lap child in the other parent's lap for a couple minutes (baby hot potato). Obviously the OP's kids aren't in this situation at all, but there may be times when you need to briefly communicate with your spouse seated in the other cabin. I agree that standing in the aisle to "hang out" is not acceptable.
