Reward seat booking lesson

Flying to DME in a few weeks time and work splashed out on WTP on the 787 as it was cheaper than an exit row in economy. (We are Y under 4 hours) I’ve therefore been diligently checking for a CW reward seat since booking and the seat i’d been hoping for opened up this morning! Yay!

BA website wasn’t able to show my bookings (shock), so I quickly phoned up to secure my upgrade. Got through to an agent, who put me on hold while he made the changes, after 11 mins the line went dead. I instantly called back and got a lady agent, whom I explained my situation to and who quickly told me no such reward seat was available. I said to her, are you sure the man who cut me off hasn’t reserved it for me, she just kept saying there was no reward availability on the flight and that availability was never guaranteed etc. So I had to end the call.

Fair enough the flight was showing 0 availability online at this point, but I was sure the seat hadn’t been taken and 20 mins later it was available to book on the BA site, so I am now happily in 10a and only 5000 Avios and £0 worse off, which seems like a cracking use of Avios to me.

Just something to bear in mind if anyone has a similar problem in the future.

Now just hoping for something to open up on the return a321 from SVO as would love to try the BMI product.
