ID required for a $4 Starbucks or a $2 water in the gift shop or to get into the $15 buffet. No ID required to pay at the nice steakhouse that is $50+ per person because even the casinos know IDing is a downscale process that offends people, but they're willing to do it for those "cashier to customer" type transactions. They don't dare do it in a position where a tip is on the line.
I have a tip for them... Upgrade your card readers and potential fraud wouldn't be an issue.

When they're the only merchant in the entire casino that asks for ID, they look stupid, especially because they have the cheapest products of all merchants there.

It's not really offensive as it is ironic. "We're too cheap to upgrade our equipment to make it up to date, but we'll glady check your ID, and then at the same time, 'forget' to ask for your casino card to add points to it."

But then again, it didn't help that the cashier was the only employee in the establishment that didn't greet people with a smile and their entire tone of "do you have ID?" instead of "Due to merchant policy, may I see your ID please? Thank you." - I have no respect for employees like that. Learn some customer service skills.
