Hi everyone,

I will be traveling from Upstate NY to Xiamen in a month and I am mostly considering two flight options: EWR - HKG - XMN and back or BGM - DTW - PVG - XMN and back. The former has 4h+ connections at HKG, the latter has a 3h 15m connection at PVG on the way to XMN and a 1h 55m connection at PVG on the way back. Am I correct to assume that a less that 2 hours domestic to international connection at PVG is likely to be very tight, even when traveling without checked luggage?

While there is a couple of reasons why flying from BGM is attractive for me (avoiding a long drive to EWR and earning miles with Delta), I would definitely very much prefer to avoid missed connections, cancelations, etc.
