SOT - Posts like this often remind me of the gulf that exists between flyers who frequent this board, and those who don't - not that it's a big deal, but I find it interesting to see what different people find is "definitely worth it."

I know someone who flew YVR-DUB-YVR on rouge last year. This person is fairly tall and muscular (I'd say approx 6'-3", broad shoulders, etc). When I asked if they flew premium rouge, or sprung for a seat with more legroom, they looked at me like I was crazy and replied with a "hell no." This is a person who can easily afford to pay more for comfort.

I was surprised by how emphatic this person was, and asked why. IIRC he mentioned that a preferred seat was several hundred dollars more, and PY considerably more than that. This person flipped the situation around and said that if all the seats were more expensive, but that prior to boarding the GA made an announcement asking for volunteers to take $500, but that they'd have to sit in an awkward position for 10-hrs, he'd have taken the money. I know others who have expressed similar opinions. There is a significant portion of the population who simply want the lowest cost alternative to getting where they're going, despite any cramped conditions/discomfort/etc. To them, the costs savings are "definitely worth it."
