As for upgrades into Auto, considering the rate difference between Manuel’s and Autos in the UK, that’s definitely considered a decent upgrade.
Only time I got an upgrade like that was being given an E-class instead of a C-class at T5, when I had a flight and car booked through BA.com. Typically though I collect from the depot outside of Heathrow by the permitter road, and it will be things like getting an auto golf over a manual golf, or a golf with sat nav.
Maybe Avis LHR just don't like me!
