Slightly OT, but on my last stay at the St. Regis, we had very nice room service breakfast one morning. But we had disastrous downstairs breakfast the other -- the steak came out well done instead of medium rare twice... the "jumbo lump" crab cakes weren't even lump (all backfin, the chef agreed)... the potatoes were undercooked. Eventually we were given a credit towards other F&B (since the breakfast was comped anyhow). It was night and day. In any event, the St. Regis's generous breakfast allowance is nice, but my negotiated rate there is usually at least $80 more than the Chatwal... enough to wash out the cost of scrambled eggs!
As for Yelp, generally not useful
except that I have yet to find a
bad place that has 4.5 or 5 stars with more than 500 reviews. In that regard, I have found it useful for finding a crowd-pleasing venue to arrange meetings, lunches, or casual after-work dinners, particularly in new places. The converse, of course, is not true -- there are plenty of "3 star" places that I adore, and which receive 1-star reviews because of price, unwelcome authenticity (gotta love people who downvote an ethnic restaurant for serving spicy food), or misplaced expectations. Indeed (bringing this back OT), the Lambs Club is precisely one such place!
