The pastries are terrible and are clearly mass-produced, the bread is always stale, the eggs are overly greasy/buttery - they get a lot of the simple things wrong. Service in Astor Court is flat-out bad, though room service is always a treat.
Wow, I’m gonna have to disagree. We had two glorious breakfasts in Astor Court at the StR on our last stay, and I’ve had breakfast and lunch there a few times since and loved it.
Would love to try the Chatwal on an upcoming NYC trip!
I do think you’ll love it. It’s a wonderful hotel. I’ll always take the StR for the award stay, but I’d gladly take the Chatwal when the cash rate is substantially lower than that of the StR.
