The terminal rebuild project has more or less completed so that was something complicating the previous posts. Essentially it is now fairly straightforward, though not as easy as MXP, which usually prices out slightly cheaper than FCO. If you have some B2B experience, go hand baggage only, have boarding passes lined up then I don't see you having a problem. I would either go B2B or go the night before (any carrier). I wouldn't advocate anything in between those 2 options.
