I booked AA2811 so that I had 11 hours to connect to the SQ flight which I feel is enough time to connect. I am aware that AA's responsibility is to only get me to LAX, and that AA will not interline bags to an SQ flight on a separate ticket.

I've been watching the performance of AA2811 lately to get an idea of the on time performance. Yesterday's (5/8) AA2811 was severely delayed, arriving at LAX 10 hour later than scheduled, surprisingly the flight was not cancelled. The flight was delayed for multiple reasons throughout the day (according to what I saw on expertflyer.com):
  • Weather at DFW (not AA's fault)
  • Mechanical problems
  • Crew timeout
Here are some details that might be helpful:
  • I am flying with my wife and 2 kids, the 4 of us are all on the same PNR
  • We will be checking bags (can't do carry-on only, we are traveling to visit family and are bringing gifts)
  • I am AA Gold, and have a Admirals Club membership
  • I am willing to fly to any LA area airport and pay for my own ground transportation to LAX (BUR, ONT, SNA) if a delay or cancellation occurs
  • If the AA2811 flight is cancelled, I know to go to the AC to get rebooked and to have my preferred options ready to feed to the agent
  • If the flight is delayed significantly before I check bags, I know to try and get rebooked before checking my bags at the checkin counter
In order to be prepared for the worst case scenario, I want to understand what is possible for rerouting on a different flight on 5/26 if a similar significant delay occurs. I have a few questions that I hope someone can advise me:
  • If the flight is delayed significantly after I check bags, what is the possibility that I can be rerouted on another flight to LAX or surrounding airports? Is it possible for AA to rebook us on another flight and to pull our checked bags and reroute them to another flight if our original flight is only delayed, not cancelled?
  • Are there other recommended tactics to proactively get myself and my family rebooked on another flight so we don't miss our LAX-SIN flight?
If we have a 10 hour delay on our AA2811 on 5/26 (like what happened on 5/8), that would mean we would have likely missed our SQ LAX-SIN flight, so I want to be proactive on our travel day to avoid this type of situation. I'd appreciate any feedback on how to be prepared if this situation comes up.

Thanks!
11 hours will be PLENTY of time to connect and gives you tons of cushion for even the most bizarre irrops scenarios, I wouldn't worry about this at all. Things at DFW were a complete mess the past few days with storms and such, a 10 hr delay is completely out of the ordinary.

To answer your question, yes AA can remove bags from a flight once you've already checked in and tag them onto another flight that you're rebooked on. This just takes time and adds an add'l layer of complexity in getting rebooked. If your flight is delayed and there's another one departing in 30 mins, your bags might not make it on that one, for example.

You seem to have all your bases covered, except the most probable scenario, which is you and your family have 10 hrs. to kill at LAX before you can check in and drop your bags for the SQ flight .
