The way I look at it, PE is only worth considering it if it’s max 2x the price of economy on the same flight. Lowest PE fare is usually 80-100% more than the lowest economy fare on respectable carriers such as BR, SQ and CX (of course it’s not always the case that such fares are available). I also don’t believe in spending more than $2000 to fly anywhere round trip, even if it’s PE. The most I ever spent on PE was just a hair under $2000 for SEA-JNB.

From SEA/YVR, you can fly to TYO for as little as $700 economy return, $1200 PE return. (I’m excluding Chinese airlines, too). In peak season, i still never pay more than $1300 return on economy. This Xmas we’re going nonstop on JAL economy for $900 return at peak season. I used to live in BOS and I never spent more than $1300 to travel to Jpn back then either... generally $900-1300 economy. So I would think a reasonable price range for PE is double that. I defer to AlwaysAisle since it looks like he’s based there and I’m not anymore. But it sounds like what he’s saying is not all that different from what I’m saying.

Cool, if you paid up to $1300 from BOS back then and reasonable is double that for PE, I'm in the ballpark in today's prices at $2760 coming from DC. One thing I noticed that made my price go up was it being open jaw coming from KIX. Had it been Tokyo and back, it would have been lower.

Air Canada's PE looks pretty decent too. A lot of other carriers aren't available for my itinerary even tho' I have 3 major airports close by (DCA (the closest at 15 miles away), IAD, BWI).
Delta wanted around the same price but gave you only Comfort+ on the return. Other itineraries wanted the same price but have you in economy for 5-6 hours on the return.

The only economy leg I have is from KIX to HND which is about an hour on ANA. The bulk, at 12 hrs both ways, is PE, and an hr on the business shuttle both ways.

Many of you are lucky being on the west coast. I do have my easier Caribbean travel tho'. LOL
