Another update: just got another call from JL that they found our other luggage, and both are on their way on the QR flight no I took two days ago. At the end, I just need to shell out a local courier charge from HND to my home which is minuscule. Case closed, Couldn’t be happier.
Lessons learnt: 1) be early for your flight, 2) When things go wrong with the luggage, let the airport ground staff (hopefully at your home airport or somewhere with good service level) handles it rather than trying to take care of it yourself.
