Can they really use an authorization code four or five months after obtaining it? I find that very odd. It’s one thing to charge to a pending transaction, and quite a different one to charge to an already completed transaction. Of course, as the property has all the cc details on file, they may initiate a new transaction anytime they want. But if by then the cc has no credit, this new transaction may be declined by the cc issuer.
