Done this multiple times on DL, UA and AA.

No biggie as long as you are with them at checkin - and the letter that was mentioned if your wife isn't traveling.

DL and UA both have a way to "Link" the PNR's to eliminate some confusion but IME it doesn't really work. AA might, I have just never tried.
