Speculation question: I am flying to MEL for a weekend for my mother's 80th birthday in a couple of month, so am planning on doing carry-on only. The 14 kg combined weight limit should be ample for the weekend ... except. My routing includes LAX-BNE / lunch with my brother / BNE-MEL. My sister wants me to bring her some duty free liquor to MEL. My understanding is that the liquid restrictions do not apply to domestic flights, so in theory there should be no problem with me carrying two full-size bottles of the rubbish she likes to drink in my carry on. However I am concerned about the added weight. Two bottles of rum could easily weigh 2.5-3 kg and that might put me pretty close on the weight limit, or over it. I am a pretty large person and my bags will be small backpacks that should not scream "weigh me" when I get back on board in BNE, even with a bottle of rum in each. Any views/suggestions/speculation that might be useful?
