I'm looking at a cruise, on the deck I want there are no more mid-ship rooms, only aft. Is it wise to pick "guaranteed" instead of a specific cabin, and how often will that result in a better cabin?

Thanks...
Its a lot like upgrades on a flight. If it is off season and/or the ship isn't full you can get into a nicer cabin. the GTD room is a pure overbook, they are counting on people cancelling.

Location on today's larger ships isn't important. You don't feel any more movement on the mid ship cabins than in the front or aft. In some cases, the aft cabins have better balconies.

You are booking a room with a balcony, aren't you?
