I wonder if it's a side effect of the MC prohibition on tip adjust for contactless/PIN, despite that particular rule obviously not being enforced (e.g. with Square doing it for tapped transactions).
I'd figure it's just the "standard configuration" they're going with. Also if they also use that station for ringing up customers they probably want it where the rest of them are.
