Tips should always be an option
Tips for people where their livelihood and ability to pay bills should never be optional. Many have kids, some have disabilities, some are mentally challenged, live paycheck to paycheck, and do jobs that quite frankly many of us on FT would never ever want to do.
I've never understood on a forum that includes hotels such as St Regis and Ritz Carlton that some get riled up over a tip jar for those that are clearly less fortunate.
And this employers should pay them better doesn't sit well with me at least, because we all know the employers aren't paying them well and aren't going to change their habits, so not tipping only hurts the employee.
