Hi,
We took the limosine bus directly from NRT arriving at 1830 ( just over 70mins from NRT and we were the first stop) Check in was quick but my mother and I were put on separate floors (404 and 624) which would not be a problem but the room key cards only served that floor so we got additional keys for the others floor.
Our rooms overlooked the front of the hotel and the front car park where tour buses amd taxis parked. The rooms were large and well appointed ( the king bed was huge and seemed larger than the normal king ) with a well appointed bathroom and combied bath/shower and of course the wonderful toilet!. We found drawer storage was tight for 5 days but the cupboard was large but there was a small step into the bathroom which was a little disconcerting at first but we got used to it. Tea and coffee were provided together with 2 bottles of water daily.
A very nice touch was the Handy smartphone provided free in the room with free data usage. We took it out with us but just used for maps and hyperdia . The instructions stated that data would be wiped after 1pm on day of check out. but we did not log into any sites with it.
Threre are a lot of higher end shops in the hotel but there is also a pharmacy and book /small souvenier shop
The layout is a little confusing at first but we went for a stroll and found Tully's coffee ( nice for an iced coffee) ( opens at 7am on weekdays and 9am at weekends) and a Family mart convenience store on the 2nd floor in the Garden court ( we found that the elevator did not stop at floor 2 but there are escalators to the 6th floor of the garden court which leads via the garden lounge restaurant to the 2nd floor of the main building.
The gardens are wonderful with a waterfall. bridges ,stone lanterns and a few sakura trees.I found that a nice route was to take the exit close to the Garden Lounge restaurant , go round the top of the garden , go across the bridges, down the stone steps , go to the bottom of the waterfall and then go back via the Garden Court entrance ( leading to the 2nd floor)
The immediate area is fairly quiet but across the road from the Garden court entrance is the shopping plaza beneath the Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho with a nice walkway round the side with cherry blossoms illuminated at night ( bright purple) leading to a plaza with modern art sculptures and from many places around the hotel you could see the NTT Docom tower in Shinjuky ( the illuminated top part of it looked beautiful at night)
We joined the New Otani club to save c Y1000 yen on the breakfast buffet ( Y2450 +tax for members) and it also gives you a club room access on the 3rd floor ( ok for soft drinks/tea/coffee and a small cake until 6pm and access to the rose garden-bare in mid april this time
The breakfast buffet in the Garden lounge restaurant was good ( busy at times) with a good selection of japanese and western food
We had dinner one night at the Tower buffet on the 40th floor which was ok but a little expensive ( we found a Denny's nearby which was pretty good and cheap too)
There is a small park near by with the sidwealk having lots of sakura blossoms just past peak but still beautiful as well as a pathway overlooking the sports fields leading to Yotsuya JR station again with more blossoms.
Transport links are good. We found going out the Garden court then walking across the bridge ( saw people fishing in the river) to Akasak-Mituske metro station and used the ginza and Marunouchi lines very useful for Shibuya, Shinkjuku, Imperial Palace , tokyo station, Ueno and Asakusa.
Around the other entrances to the metro station ( on the other side of the intersections from the New Otani were other hotels ( Excel brand and more restaurants - I saw Wendy's close by but we did not venture there or in that areas as after leaving the metro we headed straight back to the hotel via exit 10D i think)
The JR chuo line statio at Yotsuya we used less often ( only coming back from the Korakuen gardens via lidabashi JR station)
The fitness room on the 3rd floor of the Main Tower ( open to 10pm) was adequate as we did a lot of walking during the day. We did not use the spa ( chargeable I think)
All the staff were friendly and we got a large taxi booked via the concierge for 4 people with bags to take us to Hilton Tokyo bay.
The hotel was busy with a lot of tour groups walking to/from the Garden tower. at times but one in the gardens you got a sense of tranquility and our floors seemed quiet
Overall a very good stay
Some photos with my mobile phone ( apologies for the poor quality for some of them -others in my collection look slightly shaper but hope it gives a flavour of the gardens)
