The Hyatt hotel brand will make its debut in Brisbane in 2023 as part of a $700 million mixed-use project in Woollongabba.

The new 170-room Hyatt Place with a rooftop pool will form part of South City Square, a master-planned apartment development being undertaken by Melbourne-based Pellicano Group and Perri Projects, the development arm of the Scalzo family.

The new hotel will mark the return of Hyatt to Queensland

South City Square, comprising a series of towers, is under construction on a 2.1-hectare site on the corner of Logan Road and Deshon Street, close to the Gabba sports stadium.

When complete, it will be home to 850 apartments, cinemas, a Woolworths supermarket, health and wellness facilities, offices, a childcare centre and other retail amenities.

"Woolloongabba is a hotspot for major sporting, entertainment, tourism, commercial and medical areas in Brisbane, and we look forward to giving professionals and leisure travellers a relaxed, high-quality hotel experience within South City Square’s vibrant, inner-city lifestyle hub,” David Udell, Hyatt’s group president for the Asia Pacific, said. The new hotel will mark the return of the Hyatt hotel brand to Queensland.

The Chicago-based company previously operated the five-star Hyatt Regency Coolum on the Sunshine Coast before it was purchased by mining billionaire and politician Clive Palmer in 2011.
