Why did you have to pay walk up prices to rebook the next day after IROPS? I know carriers have this in there contract that they can force you to take a refund and not a rebook, but I was not aware any airlines actually did this (and certainly not a US mainline).
Chase might cover a needed replacement ticket after a WX cancellation. But it would likely depend on the details and be case by case.
