Even if you have insurance from a credit card it may still not meet your full needs for protection.

Does it cover (and if so to what $$$ amount) things like lost luggage / stolen cash / lost passport or any of the other things that can go wrong. Would it cover should you need to cancel because one of your non flying kids is ill and you need to cancel?

I'm in the UK so my priority for insurance has always been cover for medical costs and repatriation should I fall ill when away, then cover for legal issues and then delayed flights / baggage etc.

You may have separate medical insurance already but does that cover the costs of getting you back home and a medevac flight can be very expensive.

I have never bought a policy being offered by a travel provider (whether airline, hotel chain or travel agent) but go for stand alone policies.

(sorry not trying to scare you!)
