We have had a preferred rewards Gold credit card (UK) for going on a year now (renewal is due in June) and we are considering upgrading to a Platinum charge card, as I believe Amex is currently offering a 20,000 point bonus for doing so. Does anyone know the best timing to do this? We have the 10,000 point bonus coming to us due to spending £20,000 on the card in one year but I know that this is paid on the renewal of the card. If we upgraded to the Platinum card before our Gold card’s expiry in June would we lose the 10,000 point bonus? Is there any way we can upgrade before June and STILL get the 10,000 points? If not, would it be better to wait until our Gold card’s renewal, and bonus, and then upgrade to Platinum? If so, how would this work with refunding the Gold card fee for the new year and paying the Platinum fee?
