I'll also note to the OP - if you're flying a trip per month (I assume that means round trip), you might think about trying to qualify for A List (which can be obtained for 25 one way flights in a calendar year), and gives you automatic checkin and a boarding number ahead of the early bird folks.

In general, I think early bird is only worth it if you know you won't be able to check in manually at T-24.
