Hong Kong or Bangkok

In March 2004 I spent one week in Hong Kong, and then went onto Thailand for two weeks. The week I spent in Hong Kong was great. I spent one day (Friday) just browsing The Golden Mile (Nathan Rd) and adjusting to my new environment. The next day (Saturday) I went to the Jade Market, Bird Market, and then went Victoria Peak and out for a nice supper. On Sunday, I just went around Hong Kong and people watched and went to parks. Very relaxing. Monday I went to Macau, had a great trip. Tuesday, I took a tour into the New Territories which was very interesting. Wednesday I was off to Aberdeen and shopping at the markets. Thursday I packed, and was off to Thailand. The hotels are more expensive than BKK. A friend who lived in HKG recommended the YMCA Salisbury. They gave me a weekly rate. I had a great room with a view of the Harbour.

BKK can be overwhelming. It is sooo HOT! But there is plenty to see. I took a trip to Chiang Mai, which was the highlight of my time in Thailand. Went on an elephant trek, a little trip down a river on a bamboo raft. Went to a spa for a 3 hour treat (it was soo cheap). Back in BKK, I went on a tour outside of town to the Floating Market (can't remember the full name). It was interesting, glad I went.

If I had to make a decision though, given the weather, I would try HKG first. Unless you can handle the humidity. Good luck on your decisions. Can't recommend any hotels in BKK as I stayed with a friend living there.
