Thank you Horace. I new the rules when everything changed last year but every hotel I've been to has their own variation of it. I've always come out with the right amount of points but hotel staff still get it wrong. Thanks again for clearing this up.
It's not a case of every hotel having its own variation. The hotels are supposed to adhere to brand standards, and by and large they do.

There are six main ways that Marriott's brands deal with Platinum Elite (and higher) guests at breakfast. The wiki does not provide details about other Welcome Gift options, how guarantees work, or which specific properties are excluded in the T&Cs.
