Sorry to hear about your reservation troubles and glad that it got straightened out - though I must admit I'm not sure why an electronic ticket makes a difference. Wouldn't you have had the same problem if you'd had a paper ticket?
Thank you for the non-800 US number. I had the Qatar number with me, but they were already closed when I arrived at the airport and ran into this problem.
I never had a problem with a paper ticket before, and I think the reason for that is as long as you are holding a paper ticket in your hand, they cannot give up the seat. The seat can only be given up when the paper ticket is turned in, and a paper ticket has a value to it until it is turned in. As opposed to an electronic ticket, they can cancel all your seats, and you now have nothing of value in my possession.
That is my theory, as I have taken this flight about 6 times this year, and never had a problem with changes when I possessed a paper ticket. However, the first time I try it with an e-ticket, I am told they have no confirmed seats for me.
