I think many of the 'no way will I fly on one' proclaimers will change their minds when they realize that the planes will be initially departing a third full, enabling cheaper fares and/or easy upgrades. The lure of personal gain will overcome the commitment to personal safety (not that the latter was ever well-quantified in the first place).
Me? Have avoided them so far, and have no desire to step aboard one anytime soon, and my opinion has nothing to do with the crash history. I've happily flown in many obscure aircraft types - some of which were as sketchy alpha-foxtrot.
